Fall 2024 concert - purposeDecember 6 & 7, South Portland High School
|
When contemplating 'Purpose,' we might ask: What is the purpose of life? What is its meaning? Have I accomplished anything significant? What am I doing that truly matters? Is it possible to achieve something lasting? Is there a spiritual realm? Different people and cultures offer various answers to these questions. Purpose guides us in how we handle pain, how we spend our days, who we share our lives with, and how we feel about our existence.
This program delves into a microscopic view of purpose through the lens of composers across different times and places. From Brahms, Bach, and Handel to contemporary Gospel, Folk, and a cappella styles, we will explore stories that barely scratch the surface of our human experience. Additionally, traditions connect us to our past and can unite us, so our program includes winter celebrations like Kwanzaa and the Christmas Hallelujah Chorus. Music is the melody and language of our hearts, an external expression of our aspirations, love, and sorrow. It transforms the words of our hearts into sound, providing timeless relaxation and well-being. As we reflect on life's purposes today, I hope you leave with a sense of hope and gratitude for the many opportunities life offers. Have a safe and healthy holiday season. |
